Change how the app looks
Pick the app's theme, make the side rail and the + button solid or tinted glass, and choose whether the desktop shows through.
The appearance card in Settings holds the app's theme, what the side rail and the round + button are made of, and how roomy the screens are. Every change applies at once, in every Blowhorn window, and is kept for the next launch.
Choose a theme
- Open Settings from the account menu.
- In the appearance card, pick a theme: System follows your Mac's Light or Dark setting, Night is a warmer, dimmer dark for late hours, and Day is a higher-contrast light for bright rooms.
Make the rail and the + button glass
- In the appearance card, pick a material:
- Solid - the plain rail and a solid + button.
- Teal glass - the default. A teal tint over the rail and a teal glass button.
- Ink glass - a dark, smoky tint, with a white +.
- Clear glass - an untinted pane, with a black +.
- Under a glass material, move tint strength to set how much of the glass's colour lies over the rail.
reduce transparency is on to start with, so the glass stays opaque: the rail is a solid tinted pane and the + button a solid tinted disc.
Let the desktop show through
- Pick Teal glass, Ink glass or Clear glass.
- Turn reduce transparency off. The desktop now shows through the rail, softened, the way it does in Finder's sidebar, and the screen behind the + button shows through it.
- Move see-through to set how much of the desktop shows through the rail.
The screens beside the rail always stay opaque, so their text never depends on your wallpaper. Each theme and material stops tint strength and see-through where the rail's text would get hard to read over a busy or very light or dark desktop, so the end of a slider can move when you change the theme. Links on a glass rail, such as open the log folder, take a deeper or paler shade of teal than elsewhere, with a dotted underline, so they stay as readable as the rest of the rail.
When your Mac's own Reduce transparency is on (System Settings > Accessibility > Display), Blowhorn keeps the glass opaque whatever this card says, and the card tells you so. The desktop showing through the rail is a macOS feature; on any other system the glass stays opaque.
Change the spacing
In the appearance card, pick spacing: Comfortable is the default, Compact fits more rows, and Spacious makes text and targets about 25% larger.
